Students accompanied by Teachers from Daulat Ram College marched to the VC office today after a piece of tile fell on a student outside the chemistry lab. It needs to be noted that the students have been on protests since 30 August 2016 after a portion of the ceiling fell onto the students while the class of Political Science, first year was going on. The dilapidated college building and a grave threat to students safety is not the only issue that the students have been protesting about. Daulat Ram being one of the reputed colleges of Delhi University has the worst infrastructural facilities today, from fee hikes to an impending threat of vacating hostel due to paucity of funds to meet the operational cost.
On one hand the college has built state of the art college hostel and on the other hand they are telling students that a 200 odd hostlers might have to vacate the hostel since the trustee board has frozen funds. Due to the dilapidated condition of the college building the classes have been suspended indefinitely. In over a months period of time the semester exam will begin but neither the college authorities nor the administration is concerned about the future of the students. The students have been relentlessly protesting outside the principles office everyday but so far nothing has been done only hollow oral assurances are being given so that the students stop protesting. Disha students organisation condemn this serious lax on the side of Daulat Ram College. We stand with our friends in their struggle. Long live student unity!
